About Make A Move
For over 15 years, Make a Move for Scleroderma has brought people together across Canada to take action against scleroderma. This annual event unites patients, caregivers, and supporters to raise awareness, fund vital research, and strengthen community connections. Make a Move creates a space to recognize those affected by scleroderma, celebrate their strength, and show support for the entire community. Every contribution helps progress toward better treatments and, one day, a cure.
What is Scleroderma?
Scleroderma is a rare, chronic autoimmune disease that causes the body to produce too much collagen. Collagen is an important protein that helps support our skin and connective tissues but in scleroderma, excess collagen leads to hardening and tightening of the skin and, in some cases, damage to internal organs.
Scleroderma can affect people very differently. For some, it primarily impacts the skin. For others, it can involve the lungs, heart, kidneys, digestive system, or blood vessels. There is currently no cure, and the disease can be unpredictable and life-altering.
In Canada, thousands of people are living with scleroderma. Because it is rare and often misunderstood, awareness and research funding are critical. Through education, support, advocacy, and research, we are working toward better treatments and one day, a cure.
About us
At Scleroderma Canada, we are dedicated to empowering and supporting those affected by scleroderma across the country. That’s why we invest in groundbreaking research to advance treatment options and improve quality of life. It’s why we advocate for critical policy changes that enhance access to care, treatment affordability, and patient support. And it’s why we provide trusted information, promote early detection, and offer targeted resources to help patients, families, and caregivers navigate life with scleroderma.
Our goal is to ensure that scleroderma is recognized, patients are heard, and no one faces this disease alone.
Patient Support: Developing patient education and bring patients together in peer to peer groups
Research: Granting research funding requests and facilitating grant requests for external research funding
Awareness: Increasing awareness of Scleroderma through annual campaigns and activities planned across Canada
