What is Make a Move?

Make a Move is Scleroderma Canada's annual fundraising campaign. With organized walks in Alberta and Ontario or Move Your Way you can participate in raising awareness and funds to support Research, Awareness, Advocacy and Education. 

Are dogs permitted at organized walks?

Four-legged furry friends are welcome to join select walks, depending on the regulations of the walk location. If you are interested in bringing your dog, please reach out to Riva@scleroderma.ca to confirm they are welcome at your specific walk. 

What is included in the registration fee?

Our walk registration includes attendance to the walk you’ve chosen to register for, refreshments and entertainment at the event, as well as an exclusive 2026 Make a Move event item. 

This year's Move Your Way registration fees will be eligible for a full tax receipt, in lieu of an event item, refreshments, entertainment, etc., received at our in-person events.  Tax receipts will be emailed to you, immediately following your online registration.

How to Take Part

How can I take part?

In 2026, you can join a local walk, or Move your Way, any day! You can register to take part in the following ways:

  • Register yourself as an individual
  • Create or join a team with your family, friends, neighbours, or co-workers
  • Spread the word and invite others to join your team. 
  • Sponsor someone by donating to their fundraising page. 
  • Make a donation to Make a Move as a whole to help us reach our goal!
Who can participate?

Anyone can participate! People living with scleroderma, community members, corporate supporters, participants of all ages are welcome to join in on the fun to support the mission of Scleroderma Canada and your Provincial Scleroderma Organization.

How can I get a commemorative sign for my local walk?

Whether you're participating in your local walk or supporting the Move Your Way initiative, commemorative signs are available to display at your chosen location! By purchasing a sign, you not only show your support, but 100% of the proceeds go directly to Scleroderma Canada. Each sign can be personalized with a name and photo, and you can take it home as a lasting reminder of your participation.

How does Virtual Participation work?

Understanding that some people might prefer to participate from home, or can't make it to a scheduled walk, Scleroderma Canada is continuing to offer a virtual option so nobody misses out! By participating in Move Your Way, you can choose how and when to make your move! Walking, running, cycling, climbing stairs, doing yoga, gardening, fishing, the options are endless! Fundraising is made easy with custom personal fundraising pages where you can accept online pledges/donations. Our Move Your Way event remains a fundraising event, so share your message far and wide and ask your family and friends to support your efforts by making a donation to make a positive impact on the lives of those people living with scleroderma. Your participation will have a very meaningful impact on the scleroderma community and we are so grateful for your support!  

Do I have to walk or run or can I take part in the event with my bike, rollerblades or skateboards?

If you participate in our virtual event, you can Make a Move in any way you choose, whenever you choose!

If joining one of our in-person walks, please note that not all walk terrains are paved, so walking or running is ideal. If you have any questions about your walk please email Riva@scleroderma.ca

Do I need to register in advance?

Yes please! We encourage all participants to register before their event.Not only does it save time at your event, by registering in advance, you will be able to create your own personalized online fundraising page where you can set a fundraising goal and ask your friends and family to sponsor you!

Set a clear and achievable fundraising goal. Whether it's a specific dollar amount or a target number of donors, having a goal gives you a sense of purpose and motivates your efforts.

How to use social media strategically?

Harness the power of social media to amplify your message. Share updates about your fundraising progress, post engaging, and encourage your followers to get involved. Don't forget to include a direct link to your fundraising page for easy donations.

How to express gratitude to donors and supporters?

Show appreciation to your donors and supporters. Send thank-you messages, acknowledge their generosity publicly, and express gratitude for their contributions towards our shared goal.

Should I share my story?

Your personal connection to scleroderma is powerful. If you’re comfortable, you can share personal anecdotes, experiences, or testimonials that evoke emotion and inspire others to support your fundraising efforts.

Is fundraising mandatory?

Fundraising is critical to the success of our event and we truly appreciate your support. More often than not, your network of family, friends, neighbours and colleagues will be happy to support your efforts! Consider kicking off your own fundraising challenge by making a donation to yourself!

What will my support be benefiting?

100% of the proceeds from Make a Move for Scleroderma will benefit individuals in your region, by providing education, support, and advocacy to those living with scleroderma, and by providing critical funding for research to find a cure! 

What payment methods are accepted for the registration and donations?

You can use Visa and MasterCard to process registrations and donations on our website.

How do I set up my personal fundraising page?

Upon registration, you will automatically receive a personal fundraising page through the event website and an e-mail with details on how to customize your page. You can upload a personal photo, and if you wish, share your own #MySclerodermaStory, why you are choosing to support Scleroderma through this year's event. You will be able to share a link to your personal fundraising page with your family and friends.

What should I do with cash or cheque donations that I collect?

If you have collected cash or cheque donations, please be sure to fill our paper pledge form to track your donor information.  Please connect with Riva Lewis (Riva@scleroderma.ca) to make arrangements to drop off/submit these donations. Please take note that we will require the full name and mailing address of each donor if they would like to receive a tax receipt.

Will charitable tax receipts be provided for event donations?

Yes, tax receipts will be automatically e-mailed to individuals who make donations $20 or more through the website.  Tax receipts will be sent in the mail for any cash or cheque donations submitted.

Donating

Can I make a donation even if I don’t participate in the walk?

Absolutely! You can sponsor someone who has registered, sponsor a team or donate to the event online by clicking on the Donate button on the homepage.

Will I receive a digital tax receipt?

Yes, when you make a donation to a walk, participant, or event, through our website you will receive a Tax Receipt to the email you provided.

What does my donation support?

Your donation supports Advocacy, Awareness, Research and Education efforts through Scleroderma Canada's programming. When you donate to a participant directly you are also encouraging them to continue their hard work!
