Meet the Walk Coordinator, Dominique Dickau
Hi, I’m Dominique. I am a proud wife and mother of two wonderful children. Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, I made the move to Edmonton, AB, in 2004, where I have since built both my career and family life.
For the past 17 years, I’ve had the privilege of being a teacher in Edmonton. My passion for education has been a constant source of joy and fulfillment, but my journey took a significant turn in 2018 when I was diagnosed with Scleroderma. After a year and a half of unexplained symptoms, I finally received the diagnosis, which explained the challenges my body had been facing.
In early 2019, my condition progressed to digital ischemia, which ultimately led to gangrene and the loss of my fingertip. Scleroderma has brought many internal and external challenges—ranging from Myositis, Interstitial Lung Disease, and Pulmonary Hypertension to noticeable changes in my face, hands, and skin. Despite these difficulties, I choose to stay positive and focus on the ways I can help others. My experience has inspired me to advocate for those newly diagnosed with Scleroderma and share my story to offer hope and guidance.
Since 2021, I’ve organized the annual Make A Move event in Edmonton, bringing people together to raise awareness and support for the Scleroderma community. In 2023, I took on the role of Provincial Representative on the Board of Directors for Scleroderma Canada, where I’m able to further advocate for those affected by the disease across our province.
When I’m not working or advocating, I love spending time with my family. I enjoy reading, traveling with my loved ones, and cheering on my children as they participate in the activities they are passionate about.
Through it all, I remain committed to helping raise awareness, building connections with others, and making a positive impact within the Scleroderma community.
Meet the Walk Coordinator, Lyna Phung
My name is Lyna Phung. I’ve been living with scleroderma for 8 years. I received a bone marrow stem cell transplant in 2019, and since then, my disease has slowed down and I’m feeling the healthiest I’ve felt in a really long time! Im so grateful to my healthcare team. I will continue to advocate for our disease. I encourage everyone to hold onto hope; together, we will discover a cure for scleroderma.
